It has been a crazy month so far. In a good way for the most part but very busy.
You all know that my Recovery Weeks have only one rule to them. I don't lift weights. I have found that this does not mean that my recovery weeks are in any way easy. It's quite possible to do plenty of exercise with just body weight and it can still fall in the brutal, puke-worthy category. A few months ago, I did start taking a day off during the recovery weeks because the workouts were hard enough that an extra day off was not only welcomed but needed. A couple of weeks ago, I started taking two days off during recovery week so that there might actually be some recovery in recovery week.
This last week was so crazy that I took all week off from "exercise". A full week of resting from structured exercise. I can't say that there was something great about it because I was so busy that it didn't mean any extra sleep or anything. I just didn't go out into my garage and do any kind of workout.
The rest of the month is going to be equally messy as far as getting some kind of rhythm going so my exercise plan is going to be 3 days a week of resistance exercise. I'm slowing down the pace quite a bit from last month too. I already know what I'll be doing in September and October and it's going to be tough. At least, I think it will be tough. You never really know until you try it.
My 3 days a week are going to be moving around each week too as I try to fit other things into the week. This week will be Mon, Tue, and Thu*. Next week will be Wed, Thu, and Fri. You get the picture. August is when we tend to be very active as a family but I don't want to go a whole month without working out so I just switch and swap things around to make it work.
*Thursday, I will be having my class but I won't be able to actually participate. Wednesday, I'm getting another shot in the neck and that means several days of doing absolutely nothing as my body tries to heal up from the damage that the doctors have done. Luckily, Wednesday is the first day of my vacation so I will be in relax mode but just because I can't do anything doesn't mean that I'm going to let my class off the hook. =)
To get ready for next month's workouts, I've ordered the Gymboss timer. I've been using a regular clock with a second hand and that has worked just fine but next month, I'm going to be shortening up both the time we are exercising and the break time. It's going to move so fast that I can't be watching the clock. After I've used it a couple of times, I'll do some kind of product review on it but I've seen a couple of people on YouTube using it whose opinions I trust on fitness matters so I'm pretty sure it's going to work out nicely. Yes, I did actually order the pink one that I linked to. I wanted one that would be easy to find. They make a camoflauge one for manly men but I could just see me wandering in the morning.
"Have you seen my Gymboss?"
"No, what's it look like?"
"It's camouflage."
"Good luck with that."
So, here's today's workout:
- Squats
- Push-ups
- Supinated Curls
- Frog Squat Plus
- Hand Touch Push-ups
- Outward Curls
We didn't hurry through any of them and while we didn't dilly-dally between exercises, there was no rush to get to the next one either. We did this circuit three times. Had we picked up the pace just a tad, we could have done it four times but I'm really using this month as more of a maintenance month. It's almost like we're doing a recovery month instead of a recovery week. With the slower pace and the extra days off, everyone should be coming into class feeling ready to go.
The next two months won't be so kind and I'm already working up an idea for the two months after that. The next two months will be absolutely brutal and then we'll ease back for a couple of months and play a bit.
I had more on my mind this morning but now it's all gone (yes, I'm talking about my mind but the ideas are gone too).
Ooh, I did get something from one of my tweeps (see, I have lost my mind) that caught my interest. Vibram is making a cross-trainer called the Komodo and it should be out next year. Yeah, I have to have a pair. You knew that, right?
I did a repair job on my VFFs using patch material that looks very much like the upper of my VFFs and ShoeGoo. It's kind of a mess right now because I had glue all over my fingers as I tried to get the patch in the exact right spot. I did get it where I wanted it but I ended up with glue all over the top of the patch as well. Now, I'll have to see how long it will last and then the big test will come when I send the shoes through the washing machine. It'll be great it if it holds. I actually double patched it by putting one patch on the inside and one on the outside, hoping that the sandwich effect would make it stronger.
