I hadn't really thought about when we were going to tell him his name. I suppose he would have eventually found out. Maybe when he got his driver license.
I didn't see any point really in telling him his name. He answers just fine to the three or four nicknames that I have for him. Why confuse him by telling him his real name?
I'm not sure what prompted her to tell him. How did the topic come up? I don't know. I just know that he came running out to the living room excited with this new information.
I have been worried that he would be marked absent for the first few weeks of school if they called out roll using his name. We have tried to fix that by making sure that everyone around him knows his nickname.
In fact, most people don't know that his name isn't Trey. People just assume that it must be his name since that's what he's been called since the day he was born. You can blame my dad for that. In fact, you can blame my dad for Trey's real name and his nickname. It was all his idea.
Since that initial burst of excitement, Trey hasn't mentioned it again. It was an astounding and short lived flash of insight for him, I guess.
