Disclaimer: This P90X review is just one guy's journey through 90 days to see what happens. Your results will probably be different based on any number of things (diet, intensity, other activities) and you should be healthy enough for hard workouts before you start this program.
11/18: I got up this morning and managed to put a DVD in through blurry eyes. I chose Turbo Jam's Learn and Burn so I could get a sense of what I was getting myself into.
The first ten minutes goes through the 11 key moves, Chalene calls them, in slow motion so you can learn them. After that, you do about 16 minutes at a faster pace that covers the moves so that you get a sense of what they are like at normal speed. It's lots of punches and kicks, while crunching your abs. I think it's going to be fun. I want to try one of the full speed workouts tomorrow.
I was going to do a weight circuit after lunch but did yard work and packed up some of the things in my office instead. It wasn't exactly exercise but it was necessary.
I've gone back to my clean diet. I needed to. I've put some fat back on my gut and I'm not going to let that go unchecked. I still have until June to get into the best shape that I can. I'm going to be doing my version of P90X doubles as many days as time allows. I want to get back to where I was when I hurt my throat and then blow right past that and see if I can find my abs. =)
11/19: Oh my gawd! Either I'm out of shape or Chalene Johnson is out to kill me. I only did the 16 minute workout yesterday and I'm feeling it up and down my whole sides. I am feeling muscle pain in places where I never knew I had muscles. After P90X, I wouldn't have thought it was possible.
I didn't work out unless you call whining about muscle pain a workout.
I did mow the lawn because it was about 60 degrees out and today it's in the 40's and tomorrow is supposed to be in the 30's. It looks like winter has arrived in the Northern Nevada dessert.
If this is the results from a 16 minute workout, I'm definitely adding Turbo Jam to my workout schedule.
11/20: No workout again although my muscles are back to feeling fine. We put our house up for sale and we have two different couples coming over to look at it. The office and garage are a mess because I'm in the middle of sorting through everything and packing up everything I don't need.
I thought I would make more progress than I did today but it's tough doing both places at the same time. Some of the stuff from the office is going into the garage but I don't want to just chuck it in there only to rearrange it next week.
The first couple is coming over tomorrow night. I work in the morning, Trey and I have haircut appointments in the afternoon, and I'm teaching karate in the evening. Somewhere in there I need to figure out how to get more stuff out of the office so people can walk through.
Looking into my crystal ball, I don't see a workout happening tomorrow.
11/21: As far as exercise goes, the day went just like I saw in the crystal ball - no exercise. The day didn't go exactly as planned. When my wife went to drop Trey off at the daycare, she found that it was closed. She brought him to me at work and I went home with him so she could go to work. This turned out to be good and bad. It was good because I was able to start on cleaning and organizing earlier and my office looks great!
The bad part is that I'm technically on vacation now but I'm going to need to go in to work for a little bit to finish what I didn't get done today. Still, as I'm typing up "Thanksgiving" thoughts tonight for the other posts, I have to say that I'm thankful that I have a job with this much flexibility that I'm able to take care of my son when I need to.
11/22: We went to the buffet for dinner and I didn't really eat that much because I eat at the buffet so much that it's nothing special. It'll be there tomorrow and the next day. I never feel like I have to "get my money's worth" like so many other people.
11/23: We had our family party and I didn't eat near as much as I thought I was going to and that's good because I can feel that I've been eating poorly in the last couple of weeks. The lack of exercise is catching up with me.
They had a Wii at the party and that was fun. We played tennis, boxed, and did some bowling. I think the Wii is a great idea and has the potential of getting kids up and moving (and adults at Thanksgiving dinner).
11/24: We went out for a spur of the moment shopping trip and got most of our Christmas shopping done. We weren't going to go until Tuesday but I made a command decision and we went out. It's going to free up our time when we go in on Tuesday and Wednesday and that is going to be a good thing. I'll explain more later.
I can tell you that I'm really starting to feel the infrequent exercise and so tomorrow, I'm going to have to jump back into it with both feet. It's my birthday so that's makes it a great day to get started back on the road to great fitness.
