Today's meme is from Friday Fun and it's all about guilty pleasures.
One thing you should know about me before we start is that I don't do guilt. I don't believe in it. To me, feeling guilty is putting other people's expectations above mine. Quite frankly, my expectations are high enough and are exactly in line with how I want my life to go. I don't need to put anyone else's expectations on top of that. That being said, let's move on to the meme with the idea that these are special treats that I don't feel guilty about but don't do often.
1. Food - Pizza. I don't enjoy it like I used to but I still enjoy it. Maybe because it triggers memories. I don't know. Ricky T and I used to eat pizza quite often and I became the master of pizza slice flipping. Once again, I apologize to the bald guy that I hit on the top of the head with the piece of sausage. I did make the catch on the double flip though, if that's any consolation and Pizza Hut didn't ban me from their restaurant. Rick and I were probably there best customers.
2. Pampering. A massage. I love getting a massage. I work out hard and feel like a massage is very good for me. And yet, I still find it hard to part with the money for a professional massage. My goal in the next few months is to get over this hang-up and spring for a massage every three weeks during my recovery week. Marilu (warning - current music on website drops f-bomb gratuitously) does a wonderful job and I highly recommend her if you're in Wendover.
It's so relaxing to me to lay there and let muscles that have been taxed to their limit be loosened. I tend to get knots between my shoulder blades for some reason and it's nice to get those all worked out. I know it would be good for me to do it regularly so I need to get over the financial stumbling block. It's not the inability to pay but just something in my head that keeps me from doing it.
3. TV and Books: Currently I have been watching New Amsterdam on Mondays. Tia says that it's over for the year. That's unfortunate. It's the only TV show that I watch. I believe that TV is one of the primary reasons for the downfall of this country and I don't take part much. I watched Heroes when it was on (suggested by PTE Rick) and I watched Journey Man when it was on because it was on after Heroes and I couldn't get up in time to not be interested in what happened.
Before the writer's strike, I was watching TV 2 hours a week. Since then, it's been 1 hour a week. If those three shows aren't on, I suppose I'll be scaling back to zero hours.
Books? Books are never a guilty pleasure. Period. I wish I had more time to read.
4. Shopping. What is something that I can't resist buying? This is a tough question because I've got my spending very much under control. I used to buy shoes and coats. Coats being the strangest because I very rarely wear a coat. I don't like the extra bulk. Probably a hold over from my cop days. I never wore a coat when I was on duty unless I was directing traffic in a blizzard. I always felt like it would interfere with my ability to respond to an attack.
Now, the only thing that I can think of that I spend money on that isn't really necessary is supplements. I could live without creatine and glutamine but I don't want to. I would say that buying things that support my exercise habit are my guilty pleasure.
Everyone should be taking a multivitamin and anyone that is working out hard should be taking glutamine at the very least. Creatine is a nice extra for anyone trying to build strength. The P90X Recovery drink is great for anyone that does intense workouts too. Anything Else would be a guilty pleasure that I don't feel guilty in the least of purchasing when I feel as good as I do.
I do love to walk through book stores when I get a chance but that's a guilty pleasure of time because, as I've said, books are never a guilty pleasure.
What about you?
